The social media guru, Facebook has proclaimed new changes that permit people to select their own sex. The thinking behind the idea is that Facebook users no longer need to be male or female as a way of defining their gender.
The social media guru, Facebook has unveiled a list of terms to be used on the site such as transgender, bi -gender, intersex and “neither”.
50 terms are to be used – the following terms also add to the list: gender fluid and cisgender implying that one retains their sexual status they were born with.

Users can choose to be regarded as “they” rather than he and she. This change will be introduced to the US Facebook users first and with time it will be adopted in other countries.
The San Francisco Transgender Law Centre had this to say:
“We applaud Facebook for making it possible for people to be their authentic selves online.”
Facebook engineer Brielle Harrison who is also experiencing transgender transformation herself said:
“Too often people like myself are given this binary option. Do you want to be male or female?”
