There are many things I could do
But there is only one thing I should do
I could tear you out of my mind, proceeding to live
With a falsely gay spirit smiling at birds and flowers
And dying out when night comes,
Drowning into dark vacuums of sleep that hold no dreams,
Fashion no utopias and water no paradise islands
But I can’t and won’t.

I could tell myself that you were another fatty piece of infatuation
Glowing with acidic ingredients harmful to my heart
And ignore you till you were wrung dry by time,
Congealing into another unpalatable biltong
Cast into the refuse bin of fake delicacies
Leaving me with no cud to chew at night,
Ruminating over partially digested particles
Of love’s escapades.
But I can’t and won’t.

I could flee into the arms of another lonely bird
Perch upon its readily open wings
Never daunting to my senses and courage
And fly away from your sight and thoughts, killing you into a dot
Planted upon the quickly disappearing landscape, prelude
To entirely forgetting about you
But I can’t and won’t.

I could do that
And still suffer the pangs of knowing you were out there
Holding my heart
Crippled I’m left with no choice but to summon the last of my strength
Stagger into your life armed with only three words
Hoping
We shall both emerge conquerors.

Love at first Sight
No flash
No blinding light
No jump
No heart in flight
No smack
No mind gone pulp
Nothing electrical
Only this sinking feeling
Of a heart sweetly weighted
By forces of love.
