Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – government has ordered the shutting down of the Chinhoyi University of Technology following the outbreak of coronavirus on campus.
The university had been ordered to close after one person tested positive to the virus.
CUT and other universities reopened for on-campus studies and exams after they had been suspended in March when the country recorded its first coronavirus cases.
The directive was announced in a media brief by the Minister of Information, Publicity and broadcasting services senator Monica Mutsvangwa.
“ Additionally, following the recorded infection at the Chinhoyi University of Technology and in line with the guidelines for the re-opening of Universities and Colleges, the Taskforce resolved that the said institution undertake all necessary and sensible steps to close,” she said.
The Minister further noted , the taskforce directed that only those civil servants who were approved by the Public Service Commission to provide essential service should report for duty, with the rest remaining in lockdown,”
Senator Mutsvangwa announced that the government has released funds to 202077 persons through cash transfers under the Covid-19 informal sector relief fund.
More so, the country will remain under lockdown and as such government continues to provide food to the vulnerable in our communities and to those who have been economically by this lockdown.
Every citizen is urged to take preventative and protective measures in reducing and slowing down the spread of the virus, as it is in our respectable communities now.
