Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – Tonganyika Trust owned by Honorable Tongai Mnangangwa MP of Harare South constituency together with Uebert Angel Foundation donated 1000 bags of mealie meal to three different parts of Epworth in Harare on Sunday.
The MP Tongai Mnangangwa, carried out this programme in order to reach out to this community as it has more people involved in the informal sector business and is their main source of income. Some of the people survive on begging in the streets, bottle picking and selling of sweets and snacks. Receiving a bag of mealie meal lessened their stress and burden during this lockdown due the COVIV-19 pandemic as no one is allowed to go anywhere and only those essential to the country are allowed to carry on with their duties as before.
Mnangagwa’s main agenda was to assist more of the misrepresented, the disabled and the aged people in the community. The majority of the residents are old people and the youths, showed a lot of struggling during this difficult time, most of the population living in Epworth is struggling with poverty. It is very difficult for families to have a proper meal per day. The extension of the lockdown is not of any help at this moment in time as the majority are willing to risk it all in order to survive than to die of hunger, so any help coming to them was greatly appreciated. In the process of getting their mealie meal bags, the residence were practicing social distancing and wearing of face masks to avoid spreading of the virus at any cost.
The Tonganyika Trust, intends to continue giving the donations to the Harare South constituency. This trust is non political and is ready to help and serve everyone in distress during times of need, the trust does discimminate in any manner.
