All roads led to Addis Ababa on May 25, 1963,
To witness the birth of an idea whose time had come
32 African statesmen believed that being black was not a curse,
Time to equate their problems to being born black was over
What affected them then, must unite them now.
They embraced camaraderie, the spirit of being your brother’s keeper Blood is thicker than water
No matter how many times a crow bathes it’ll remain black.
Their misery united them and ignited action,
hashtag colonialism must fall.
Like wasps they vowed to sting the enemy together
For sure many mind-sets were better than one
And many hands punched better than one
lt gave birth to the Organisation of African Unity(OAU).
Now known as the African Union, a voice for black freedom
A voice that prides itself, in finding African solutions to African problems
A voice determined to rid Africa from foreign domination and exploitation. An organisation that doesn’t cower to white supremacy and subjugation An organisation that prides itself in a united Africa
United we stand, divided we fall,
United we sail divided we sink.
Green shoots of an Africa with one president are sprouting
Keep the hope, Africa belongs to the future.
Happy Africa Day sons and daughters of the green continent not
the dark continent.
