X-Men Apocalypse Review

0 0Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-There is something about action movie finales dictating that at some certain point all action will stale-over. Movie excitement, especially from sequels, is like the thrusting electricity of intercourse whereby there is a build-up towards the orgasm after which nothing is left but a slow drooping into flaccidity.
X-Men, the franchise seems to be settling into the post orgasmic droop with its latest release, X-Men: Apocalypse.
There are enough spark points and a general excitement in the whole movie yet it never breaks any new ground concentrating on fixating us using the same previous pressure points.
Apocalypse largely takes place in the 1980s, at a time events from the other X-Men” movies are being taught to schoolchildren. As with previous screenplays the storyline has a bad mutant out to destroy the world and the role of the evil mutant, Apocalypse, is played by Oscar Isaac.
Structurally it’s the same foundation as with the other X-Men before since with hero movies it’s largely difficult to come up with different scenarios.
A heroes’ gravitas can only be fully largely appreciated when he or she stands up to some ghastly evil.
For the characters Michael Fassbender is there as a moody Magneto whilst James McAvoy plays the idealistic Professor Xavier and Evan Peters is the witty Quicksilver.
The Director is Bryan Singer who has already directed four of the six X-Men films.
The only two he didn’t are 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011’s X-Men: First Class, both of which are regarded by many as the weakest instalments in the franchise.
Thus Singer comes across in Apocalypse with a strong connection with the characters’ feelings of being misfits and outsiders, their mutant powers making them extraordinary but also filling them with a sense that they’re abnormal.
The action in the movie is very impressive with some catchy explosions and fights yet at the back of the mind always lingers a subconscious stream of recollection I have been here before.
