Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – This is without doubt one of the best musical projects ever to be released by a female gospel musician in Zimbabwe this year.
While fellow gospel diva, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave is currently doing well with her single, “Kana Zvandibata”, on which she collaborated with Zim-Dancehall music ace, Killer T, and more of new material is currently being unleashed onto the market, this eight-track album titled “Wedzerai Nyasha” by Greendale-based singer Rumbie Chareka Gatawa is in a class of its own.
Already enjoying airplay on some of the local radio stations like National fm and Radio Zimbabwe, this album is a clear testimony of various talents at play; apart from the musician herself, there are various people whose Midas touch helped in lending to the project the appeal that runs through it.
Rumbie Gatawa Chareka is gifted with a seductive voice that makes her music irresistible and therefore keeps the listener’s ears ‘glued’ to the speakers for the eight-track journey that comprises the album.
Her husband, Tinevimbo Gatawa also comes in to show his prowess on the composition side (he composed all the songs on the album), and Rumbie, or Mai Gatawa if you like, does justice to the rich compositions. She sings in a way that makes one make a bold decision about repenting and join the legion army of spreading the gospel of the Lord.
If you think that is all one can expect on this album, then they are in for more and more surprises.
Man of the moment, Mathias Mhere, is also featured on one track, “Nyasha” which was produced by veteran Charles Ayibeki, who has produced a good number of albums by some of Zimbabwe’s top gospel musicians, before another seasoned producer, Lyton Ngolomi, also played the sub-rhythm on the track, “Tenda”.
Lyton was also the consultant producer on this album, which was wholly produced by talented Gibson Makumbe, the man behind the success story of Mathias Mhere’s latest album, “Double Double” among other projects that are a hit at the moment.
“When we started our studio in 2012, we started off with music producers Lyton (Ngolomi) and Charles Ayibeki as we progressed. Then after this period we came across Gibson Makumbe who by that time had recorded his own album, which was good save only for the software he was using. We offered him to come and use our studio. That is when he came to join us started working on Mai Gatawa’s latest project as a producer,” said Mr Gatawa, who is full of praise for the talented youthful producer.
This is Rumbie Chareka Gatawa’s second album after her debut offering “Zvinoita Nyasha” released a couple of years ago.
Some of the tracks carried on the album include “The Truth I Know”, Hatirwi Nenyama”, Uchange Uripi?”, “Muri Mutsvene” and “Ndabvuma”.
The release of the album coincided with the release of her DVD project for the album “Zvinoita Nyasha” which also carries a bonus video.
