Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe-MORE than 3, 000 women from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zimbabwe are gathered in Victoria Falls for a national congress that is aimed at empowering women to be self-reliant and fight poverty.
Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko will officially open the congress on Thursday, with other government officials Sithembiso Nyoni (Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development) and deputy Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Sithokozile Mathuthu attending.
The congress, which is held once in every five years, is running the theme “Where he may lead me, I will go” and ends on Saturday.
The church’s women’s ministries director Siphiwe Chisewe said women will leave the congress empowered to start self-reliance projects.
“We are excited about the camp so far,” she said.
“About 3, 500 people have come and we have a lot of activities taking place. We will have SMEs and different companies exhibiting as well as HIV and Aids testing, dental care and cancer screening by doctors.”
Chisewe said the congress will tackle issues that affect women such as health, abuse and eradication of poverty.

The conference is being held at Chamabondo Primary School.
