Malabo. (News Of The South) – Southern Africa’s representatives in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations soccer (Afcon) finals slated for Equatorial Guinea, Zambia and South Africa have been handed tough draws.

The draw conducted Wednesday in Malabo saw South Africa’s Bafana Bafana drawn in Group C, dubbed the group of death alongside Ghana, Senegal and Algeria while Zambia’s Chipolopolo will face Tunisia, DR Congo and Cape Verde in Group B.

Group A pits the hosts against Burkina Faso, Gabon and Congo while in Group D arch rivals Cameroon and the Ivory Coast will battle it out with fellow West African giants Mali and Guinea. Bafana Bafana will need to be at the at their best to progress from their tough group. However, history is on the side of the South Africans as statistics show that Bafana Bafana have never lost to any of the teams in their group at an Afcon final beating the Black Stars of Ghana twice and drawing once and notching a single win and a draw against the Algerians. Zambia, on the other hand will be fancing their chances of going all the way having won the tournament the last time it was played in Equatorial Guinea.

The 2015 Afcon tournament which kicks off on 17 January was moved to Equatorial Guinea from Morocco after the latter had asked for the postponment of the finals amid fears of the spread of the deadly Ebola virus which has so far claimed more than 5000 lives in West Africa.
