Roy and Heather Bennet have been tragically killed in a helicopter accident in North America . The two were greatest patriots of Zimbabwe. Roy Bennet was indeed a great man who couldn’t live long enough to see a better Zimbabwe.

He was an MDC-T die hard supporter and an active member in Zimbabwean politics. A true democratic fighter who wanted to see democracy prevailing. His political views were of par excellence and he was very much loved by people from Chimanimani and Zimbabwe at large.

When he retired from politics he moved to South Africa. Popularly known as “Pachedu” he late Roy Bennet was ao fluent in Shona and inspired many people in all walks of life, he taught them loyalty, love, honest, respect, reliability and politics. So many MDC- T cadres have felt so much pain in ages.

Roy Bennet is a true hero. What he fought for, is what the Zimbabweans finished on 18 November 2017. Fighting the stubborn regime. May his soul together with his wife Heather rest in perfect peace.

Roy Leslie Bennett who was born 16 February 1957 and was going to celebrate his 61st birthday next month was a Zimbabwean politician and former member of the British South Africa Police.

He was also a member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for the seat of Chimanimani, where he was affectionately known as Pachedu loosely translated as “Amongst Us”. He was the Treasurer of the Movement for Democratic Change party led by Morgan Tsvangirai and was once a member of the Senate of Zimbabwe. He was set to become the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Zimbabwe until Robert Mugabe refused to swear him in. “Pachedu’s tragic and untimely passing on has left a void hard to fill in the MDC-T party.

His resilience in the MDC- T played an important trole in moulding the party. He was an outspoken leader who united all the party members , he was a freedom fighter who fought a good fight. He was persecuted and incarcerated but he remained focused and strong.

He was one of the three white parliamentarians elected in the Zimbabwean parliamentary election, 2000 despite the intimidation against MDC voters by supporters of ZANU-PF. During the campaign, his wife who was three months pregnant, was physically abused by ZANU activists on their farm and subsequently lost her baby boy.
