We all have a story to tell, and we all love stories and there is no better story to tell than the story of our own lives. But since we cannot tell the story of our lives based on what hasn’t happened yet, as each day passes, we actually write something in our own life books. One question worthy asking is if that story we spend our lives writing is worthy telling. And if not worthy telling, how can we make it worth it?
We all see life differently, but life is more like a book. Good or bad, there always is something written in that book and only the good ones are worthy reading. A book is just the sum total of its contents, and life is thus the sum total of the events and moments of each and every day lived.
General stories are more about how they are told while real life stories are more about how they are made up. There are a lot of fascinating people, dead or alive, whose lives are so interesting that reading about them just blows your mind. The way they have lived their lives attracts so much media attention.
I have read a lot of books, novels, newspaper articles, magazines and many sources of literature and there always is something fascinating about reading and understanding the story, anticipating it as it unfolds and let it blow you away. The ability to write, something I value most, lining up words and meaning and come up with a story from the beginning to the end is just amazing to me.
A story is only as good as it is written. And in life, we write our own lives by living them and it’s only by living well that our stories at the end are more interesting.
No one looks at the foundation of a building and says, “This is a beautiful building.” The only time people will be able to say that is when the building is complete and they look at the entire view and marvel at it. That’s the same thing with our lives, only when we have completed something or achieved major success can we look back at it all and say, “This is amazing.” The telling of a story, however shaped by all the events from the beginning to the end, will only make sense when it’s completed and a beautiful structure stands erect.
Remember not every story told is a pleasant one and not all people who will hear your story are interested in the positives. Look at the celebrities, they make more newspaper headlines for controversial actions and the media chew up those stories. That’s not the story you should be telling about your life. It’s not about selling some magazine, it’s about selling your name, and only positive actions can do you good.
Warren Buffet while answering a question on the ethical practices his employees live by he answered and said, all they have to do is act in a way that if they are to read about their actions tomorrow, they would be proud. And that’s the same thing I am saying here, if you are to read about your own life, will you be proud with it? And if the answer is no, then you have to work on it to change it to a yes.
Imagine you are at the end and you are trying to tell your story, the story of your life. How do you want to tell it? The way you want to tell your story will depend on how you will like to live your life and what it is you will like to achieve. It’s always beautiful to look at it from the end to the beginning, only form that view, is meaning found.
Now, live your life as well as you would like to tell it. Make the ending look beautiful, by making each step that leads to the end beautiful. Don’t just thrive to give life a meaning, be the meaning of your life. It’s the stories with meaning that are worthy to tell. Give your life a meaning too. Unless if you are going to exaggerate on your stories then it won’t matter how you would have lived your life. But the best way to let your story be known, is not to say a word and let the fruits of your success do all the talking, that way you won’t have to exaggerate a single thing. It will be out there for everyone to see. Start today and write your story well.
