The first Miss Muslimah World pageant is due to be held in Jakarta next week, Indonesia has the world`s largest Muslim population.
Contestants for Miss Muslimah World will not be showing any flesh but are rather going to be judged on their ability to demonstrate good morals.

The Miss World pageant is taking place in Bali and Miss Muslimah is in defiance of the Miss world pageant which is considered to insult Islam and does not show respect for women.
Protests and demonstrations are being held against the Miss World pageant although organisers have made it clear that there will be no swim wear round.
The finals have been moved to Bali and will be on September 28 and will not take place in Jakarta as previously planned, this according to the Indonesian government was in the interests of public order.

The World Muslimah Foundation, a Muslim women’s group, issued a statement : “Islamic response” to the Miss World furore: a beauty contest next Wednesday where 20 modestly dressed women from Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Brunei, Nigeria and Bangladesh will take place.

The event “for Muslim ladies” will respect religious traditions, and has the blessing of Islamic scholars, according to the Asia News website. Outfits will reflect “the colours of the Muslim world”, and beauty will not be the only criterion, said one of the organisers, Eka Shanty. Rather, contestants will be judged on the three “Ss” – smartness, style and sholehah (good morals).
Armed police are said to be heavily guarding the venue for the Miss World pageant. Many protests were held in various cities and this saw protestors dressing themselves in goats with Miss World sashes.

Protestors were seen with placards boldly displaying the message : “ready to die for the Miss World contest to be scrapped”.
