Statement by LEAD President Linda Masarira
On this Africa Liberation Day, from the heart of Zimbabwe and across our magnificent continent, we at Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) stand united, unapologetic, and resolute. For too long, our continent has been shackled by the ghosts of artificial borders drawn at the Berlin Conference, a colonial wound designed to divide and conquer. For too long, some of our leaders have sought validation from the very same Western powers who orchestrated our historical subjugation, perpetuating a cycle of dependency under the guise of “aid” and “globalization.” We condemn, without reservation, those who continue to parade across the globe with begging bowls, sacrificing our dignity for crumbs.
To those African leaders who have dared to defy the status quo, who have embraced the resolute spirit of Pan-Africanism and prioritized the unity and upliftment of our people, we salute you. Your courage in charting an independent course, free from external validation, is the true embodiment of liberation.
Let the world hear this: Africa is not rising; Africa has risen. The era of divide and rule is crumbling. The time for the self-determination of African people and every person of African descent is unequivocally NOW. We reject the deceptive narrative of a “global village” when Africa remains mired in perennial debt, poverty, and underdevelopment. This is not a village; it is a meticulously crafted economic prison. We demand reparations, not patronizing aid!
To the citizens of Africa: Your destiny is in your hands. Cast out any leader who seeks external approval over internal progress. Reject those who thrive on division and perpetuate the very systems that suppress our collective power. Take charge of your communities, your nations, and your continent. Build a future where every African thrives, united and unbowed. The time for true liberation is upon us.
We demand *REPARATIONS* not aid.
