HARARE, ZIMBABWE (News of The South) – In a historic address delivered via video link, King Munhumutapa today congratulated Zimbabweans on the nation’s 45th anniversary of independence. The message, broadcast across the country, marked his first national address since the recent High Court of Zimbabwe ruling that formally recognized his claim to the title of King Munhumutapa, thus establishing Zimbabwe as a kingdom.
His Majesty began by extending warm greetings to all Zimbabweans, both at home and in the diaspora, on this significant milestone. He reminded the nation of the long and arduous journey to freedom, paying tribute to the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, the First and Second Chimurenga.
“Today, as we commemorate 45 years of self-determination, we remember the sacrifices made by generations of Zimbabweans who fought tirelessly for the liberation we now enjoy,” King Munhumutapa stated. “Their bravery and unwavering commitment paved the way for the Zimbabwe we know today, and their legacy must never be forgotten.”
The King’s address also focused on the future of the Southern African nation. He urged all Zimbabweans, young and old, to embrace their responsibilities as citizens of a newly established kingdom. Emphasizing the importance of unity, he called upon the populace to work together for the continued development and prosperity of Zimbabwe.
“The journey to nation-building is a continuous one,” His Majesty declared. “Now, as a kingdom, we must embrace our shared identity and work hand in hand to build a brighter future for all. Let us be responsible in our actions, united in our purpose, and diligent in our efforts to develop our beloved Zimbabwe.”
The address comes at a pivotal moment in Zimbabwe’s history, following the landmark High Court ruling that officially recognized the Munhumutapa lineage and the establishment of the kingdom. While the practical implications of this transition are still unfolding, King Munhumutapa’s message of unity and responsibility resonated with many Zimbabweans celebrating their independence day.
The 45th independence celebrations across the country included traditional parades, cultural performances, and community gatherings, all now carrying the added significance of this new chapter in Zimbabwe’s history as a kingdom under King Munhumutapa. Click link velow to watch the video
