A battle is ensuing between HomeSteak and Midkwe over the control of Chaka plant in Kwekwe.
Reliable sources told our reporter that Homesteak won the court case in the High court and Midkwe subsequently appealed to the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe. The Supreme Court gave the same judgement. The whole community under Homesteak was jubilant on hearing that Homesteak won. Their hopes of jobs were rekindled as one professional blaster popularly known as Ninja or Milanzi put it.

Sources say ever since the days when Kaslon used to operate the plant there has been no meaningful production on the plant .When Kaslon’s tribute expired ,Mr Mutomba took over who in turn left the plant being run by a woman popularly known as Amai Dube who resides in Gweru. It is on record that the plant takes 56 tonnes per 30 mins,at this rate the plant needs hefty capital investments which the indigenous Zimbabweans cannot access under the current situation prevailing in the country.

The bore mill also requires a lot of water but in this case Chaka plant gets its water from Dalling mine which is a stone’s throw co-owned by Homesteak. It is under these circumstances that there has not been any meaningful production for a long time. This has left the plant being a white elephant and those hoping one day tables might turn in their favour holding on to the reigns.

After Homesteak won their case, drama started at Chaka plant. Homesteak locked all entrances but Midkwe came and cut the locks.

Reliable information states that the police intervened. Also it is said Midkwe appealed to the constitutional court.
This reporter visited the plant on Saturday afternoon in an effort to get a comment from either Homesteak or Midkwe but could not get any from both sides.

By then Midkwe security were manning the plant. The cell number for Mr Paji of Homesteak was unreachable, and the directors of Midkwe were expected later that same day at the plant to map the way forward.
