Umodzi Party (UP) President Professor John Chisi a Presidential candidate in Malawi`s forthcoming tripartite elections has been disqualified by the Electoral Commission (MEC).
MEC Spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa said Chisi did not meet the required standards. “Those details have been sent to him. He should be better placed to discuss them”, said Mwafulirwa.
Chisi confirmed that he was deterred from the contest. ” Yes, I have been communicated of the decision. I am the only one missing from the list. But I can’t make any comment now because we are seeking advice. We need to be mature on how we handle the issue”, he said.
When MEC released the names of successful candidates for May 20 polls on Friday it was only Professor John Chisi who was missing.
