Two Swazi Officials To Officiate In Commonwealth Games
MBABANE – Two Swazi sports officials have been selected to officiate in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow in July.
The duo is Swaziland Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association (SWBBA) President Horst Saylor and Dudu Motsa. They have become the first from the country to be included in the least of technicians to officiate in the games of this high magnitude.
Saylor confirmed the matter yesterday after having received the letter of appointment from Commonwealth Games.
“We are excited at the appointment because it shows that the sport in the country is recognised internationally. It will be myself and Dudu who will be officiating in Weightlifting and Body Building during the competition,” he said.
The games kick off on July 23 in Glasgow and last week Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) CEO Muriel Hofer said they were still to announce final squads that will represent the country in the games. She said associations were currently training their tentative squads, and that athletes are still trying to meet the qualifying times for the tournament.
On Thursday, the Queen’s Baton will arrive in the country from Mozambique through the Lomahasha Border Gate. It will be met by a team of athletes, sports officials, community leaders and government officials. On the same day it will tour through four communities which include Shewula, Likima, Nkambeni and Ngwazini.
On the following day, the baton will be received at Mbabane and Lobamba. -Times Of Swaziland
