(News of The South) – Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman who is known for embracing various musical styles and reinventing her image throughout her career.
Alongside a successful music career, Rihanna is well known for her involvement in humanitarian causes, entrepreneurial ventures and the fashion industry.
She is the founder of the nonprofit organization Clara Lionel Foundation, cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty, and fashion house Fenty under LVMH.
Through her foundation, which is named after her grandparents, she has focused on providing children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls.
Back in 2017, with her Clara Lionel Foundation and Ofo, a prominent bike sharing platform based in China, Rihanna announced a five-year partnership called “1 KM Action” that will donate bikes to scholarship recipients in Malawi.
The campaign 1 KM Action funds scholarships to help hundreds of girls attend secondary schools in Malawi, as approximately there are 4.6 million students across Malawi but only 8% of students complete secondary school.
The bikes seems more efficient for these girls as there is the cutting down of very long walks they make to and from school all alone and they will be much safe riding than walking as they have poor transport links.
She visited Malawi as an ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education with Global Citizen, where she visited local schools and spent time with the children understanding their concerns and helping in classrooms.
She has also been vocal about asking world leaders to commit to funding education.
IN 2017 she was seen helping in building a hospital in Malawi, helped the laborers fetch sand and water.
She donated five million dollars in the fight against the Covid-19 virus and the donation was made through her foundation.
Her objective being that, the money reaches some of the poorer areas of the planet such as Haiti or Malawi, after having donated 700,000 dollars to coronavirus causes in her native Barbados.
For her philanthropic efforts, she was honored with the President’s Award at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards.
