(News of The South) – Pandemics and plagues have been attacking humanity and animals since time immemorial killing millions and more surviving. The Deadly lnfluenza of 1918/19 killed around 45 million which accounted to 2% of the then World population.
At exactly 100years after, the World has been invaded by Covid – 19 which is killing people and spreading visciously to every corner of the world. Thousands have died and millions infected.
We don’t seek to delve into the medical aspects of the virulant pandemic as we are not medical experts though we are fairly knowlegeable on Biology and Human Anatomy. We are proud Africans who believe in Ancient Civilization and use of herbs to strengthen immunity, fighting and curing diseases. There were medicines before colonialism infact our ancestors were of better health and we became weaker with use of Western medicine and practices.
One proud example is how our grandmothers could birth an average of 10 healthy babies without any complications and tend to their fields. They had longer lives too. That alone shows that good health is founded in food and lifestyle. Healthier people’s bodies easily fight off diseases that can kill those of weaker immunity.
Coronavirus is more lethal when it infects people with a weak or low immune system. The elderly, children and those with underlying diseases are more at risk of succumbing to Covid – 19. Boosting or strengthening the immune systems can therefore not be downplayed as an intervention to fight Covid-19. Because it is difficult to stop the spreading of the virus using suppression that is controlling the movement of people (lockdowns), millions of people will be infected and only strong immunity and treatment will save lives.
Zimbabwe has no capacity to treat Covid-19 patients and we will not even waste space on that. The whole world is grappling to contain and treat patients, it is wishful thinking to expect anyone to help Zimbabwe with medication for Covid-19. Lockdown will not treat sick people thus our people if infected will die like flies. Our hope of survival then zeroes in on improved immunity, our bodies must be fortified to fight Covid-19 and only nature can do that.
There are a lot of herbs that are taken as teas, infusions that boost immunity. Ederly and African conscious people in our communities know these common herbs. Our forefathers used these herbs daily as part of their diet. They worked for them and will work for us too.
Zumbani tea comes highly recommended from the Ancient World. Those who suffer from acids ‘nyon’o, there are herbs to alkanise the gut. Herbs are easily available and cheap mostly free reason why they are not promoted for use. The pharmaceutical industry is anti-herbs as their use cripples or starves them of money. We must do something now!! Must we wait to get sick to act? That will be too late.
Saving lives is a duty and saving fellow blacks peoples lives is an obligation. We call upon all our Black Conscious elders, brothers and sisters to write and share information on lmmune boosting herbs and treatments. We encourage herbalist to mass produce these concoctions and share with the community. The Chinese are using herbs as part of their Covid-19 treatment regime. Those who have been treated by Chinese practitioners know how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is widely used alongside conventional medicine.
We are appealing to our people to embrace Traditional African Medicine (TAM) to fight Covid-19 and save our lives. We also hope that those with more influence and authority will take this message seriously and inform the masses accordingly. This is the help that nature has for us as a people, the ways of our ancestors will save us… Musikavanhu bless Zimbabwe
