Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) –
The Zimbabwean government has injected US$5 million into the student loan scheme which aims at assisting students enrolled in tertiary institutions with their tuition.
“Not every student has access to a payslip, so we introduced this loan which can be accessed by students and has better repayment methods.
One can pay per semester or upon completion of studies. We have mobilised the funds from the fiscus and the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZIMDEF), and CBZ will match every dollar that we put into the scheme,” said Amon Murwira minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development.
Murwira also announced that cadetship arrears that backdated to 2016 in all universities, polytechnics and teachers’ colleges had been paid up.
State owned colleges and universities have been directed not to charge over US$250 in fees per semester, while polytechnics and teachers’ colleges are not expected to exceed US$65 for certificate and diploma programmes.
