Potchefstroom, South Africa. (News of The South) – Bangladesh yesterday won their inaugural U19 cricket world cup silverware after defeating former defending champions India by 3 wickets.
India failed to make it five titles following the Duckworth Lewis Method which assured Bangladesh of a resounding victory.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Bangladesh team did not give any maneuvering space to India as they managed to bowl them all out for 177 runs.
“It’s like a dream coming true. It’s all about the hard work that we put in the last two years. I can’t thank the coaching staff enough. It’s purely hard work,” said Akbar Ali, Bangladesh’s captain.
Top performers were both Indians in batting and bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 400 runs throughout the tournament while Ravi Bishnoi took 17 wickets.
“I really enjoyed the tournament. I had a good experience here on how to play in these wickets. I knew I had to play smartly. I am thinking about what I am playing next and it’s about the process. I want to stick with that,” said Jaiswal upon receiving the player of the tournament award.
