Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) On Monday the Indian Embassy’s two storey building was gutted by fire which caused extensive damage and destroyed property worth thousands of dollars.
The cause of the fire has been linked to an electrical fault. Although the fire seemed to have immensely damaged the building, the accounts office is the only one that had been totally destroyed.
“I was alerted by one of the employees in the accounts department at around 08h30 that there was fire in the Accounts office.
We immediately alerted the fire brigade team who were here on time. We are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire but we suspect an electrical fault, there were no casualties recorded,” said Rangsung Masakui, the Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe.
Police and the Fire Brigade are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Masakui also highlighted that plans are already underway to engage engineers to renovate the affected parts of the building as soon as possible.
