Americans sign Mtawarira

(News of The South) – Former Churchill and Peterhouse scholar Tendai Mtawarira has signed up a one year contractual agreement with American based rugby team, Old Glory DC.
The 34 year old Zimbabwean born prop, announced his international retirement from rugby a couple of weeks ago and reportedly turned down several lucrative offers from well-established professional clubs in France and England to join the American franchise.
“One of the world’s best rugby players joins Old Glory DC. Old Glory DC has signed Tendai Mtawarira to play for the 2020 Major League Rugby season,” read a statement from the rugby club.
Mtawarira also confirmed to have signed with the American based team, “I am delighted to confirm that I have signed with Old Glory DC.
I am excited and look forward to joining my new teammates and adding value to my new franchise both on and off the field. I believe this opportunity will allow me to mentor the rugby youth in D.C.
I would like to thank the owners Paul Sheehy and Chris Dunlavey, coach Andrew and the whole Old Glory D.C organization for making this process easy for my family and I.”
