Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – National foods have committed 250k rtgs dollars to the Zimbabwe Netball Association to aid them in the Africa netball cup campaign which gets underway on Thursday at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town, South Africa.
The trip was hanging by a thread as ZINA was failing to find sponsors to enable them to participate, a situation which also resulted in the Gems not camping and only met yesterday for a training session but the food giant through their brand Pearlenta Instant Poridge made sure the gems will continue their journey on the international stage, after a good run a couple of months ago at the World cup in Liverpool.
Apart from the 250k rtgs $13 000 USD) National Foods will also supply the Gems with a monthly hamper each for the next 12 months.
Speaking at the sponsorship hand over National Foods marketing executive Mr Lawrence Kutinyu said this was another opportunity for them to empower the girl child who used most of their products.
” when we came on board for the Liverpool campaign we just wanted to help but we realised we could do so much more and we realised that we can change lives and what better way to help than to assist the girl child who use most of our brands on a daily bases and we have committed to helping them for the long run not only through this money but also with monthly hampers,” said the executive.
ZINA secretary General, Mrs Barbra Rice said that National foods was now more than a sponsor but a partner for success.
” For us you (National Foods) are more than a sponsor but more of a partner because you always wish us well and you make sure we are well prepared for every campaign we go through and we thank you for that because, this environment is difficult.”
Felisitus Kwangwa the new Gems captain said the gems are ready because they have been well fed by Pearlenta, the Gems kick off their campaign on Friday as they take on Uganda at 8. 30am before tackling Kenya and Tanzania the following days for a chance to reach the semis.
