British Prime Minister David Cameron`s proposed immigration laws have been condemned by the UN refugee agency as there are fears the new laws may stigmatise foreigners and cause marginalisation of refugees and asylum seekers.

The laws are bound to deny accommodation to those in need and have been described as creating a “climate of ethnic profiling”.

Concerns were raised by Antonio Guterres the High Commissioner for Refugees within the UN.

Cameron`s proposed bill will see restrictions such as no access to bank accounts, private housing and forcing migrants to pay for public health services such as the National Health Service (NHS)

Problems with the proposal also include lack of interpretation by GPs and banks who may refuse or fail to provide service to legal refugees and asylum seekers.

“The provisions of the bill appear likely to result in asylum-seekers, refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection being stigmatised in the public mind and in their being denied access to housing or bank accounts,” the UNHCR said in a briefing note to MPs.
