Lilongwe, Malawi. (News of The South) – Protesters in Sudan have vowed to continue their campaign for democratic reforms just hours after the army announced that the 30 year rule of the country’s president, Omar Al Bashir would be replaced by a military-led transitional council.

In a statement broadcast on state television, Sudan defense minister said Awad Ibn Auf, who is also the army general, said all political detainees would be released but that the state of emergency would continue for three months and that a curfew from 10:00pm to 04:00am would be enforced for at least a month, and that all ports will remain closed for 24 hours.

The military takeover came after months of protest that escalated at the weekend when thousands of demonstrators began to sit-in outside the defense ministry compound in the central capital, Khartoum.

Meanwhile the head of the political committee has made it clear that the deposed leader Omar Al Bashir will not be handed over to the International Criminal Court, where he is indicated for suspected war crimes in Dafur.
However the communication state that he might be tried in Sudan as members of Bashir’s National Congress Party will also be incorporated into the new transitional military council and allowed to compete in eventual elections.

The military might hand over power to the civilians in two years, communicated the councils spokesperson while assuring a peaceful atmosphere and dialogue to all Sudanese.
