After Cyclone Idai devastated some people of the two countries of Malawi and Mozambique what could be described as another cyclone of goals in the game of football was witnessed in Malawi`s commercial capital city, Blantyre.
The Malawi National women’s football team also known as the She-Flames just need a formality return match in Maputo next week before they book a second round assignment against the Harambe queens of Kenya in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers.
Played before a sizeable crowd in a Thursday afternoon fixture on the artificial turf the She-Flames were just no match to the equally youthful Mozambican Women National football team.
Led by the Chinese and Swedish based professional football sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, the two girls produced a five star performance which the Mozambican ladies could not contain.
The elder sister, Tabitha was the architect who led the demolition of the Mozambican girls by feeding her sister with fine passes that enabled her to score five goals before she scored her own three, and the other goals came from Wezzie Mvula and substitute Linda Kasenda.
During post match interview the Malawi national women’s football coach, Abel Mkandawire praised his charges for the job well done.
“Let me thank and congratulate my girls for executing the instructions accordingly which has enabled us to score those eleven goals, the girls showed strong mentality and tactical quality to overcome these equally well charged Mozambican girls, “ Mkandawire said.
His Mozambican counterpart who did not identify himself by his name only took time to apologize to the people of Mozambique for the embarrassment his team suffered in the hands of the She-Flames, but he was quick to point out that his team can win and upset the tables back at home.
“It was a bad game for Mozambicans and we shall try to play and possibly beat Malawi at home, and am apologizing to all the people of Mozambique for this embarrassment we have suffered in the hand of these Malawian girls.
Malawi will travel to Mozambique tor a return match on Tuesday before they think of meeting the Harambe queens of Kenya in the second round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers.
