News of the South VICTORIA FALLS – Acting President Cde Kembo C.D Mohadi urged tourism business persons to seek initiatives that boost tourist arrivals and offer products that increase the length of stay in various tourist attraction centres in the country.
Cde Mohadi said this at the opening of Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe’s Tourism Convention, 2018 edition currently taking place in Victoria Falls.
He said Government’s vision of becoming an upper middle income by 2030 cannot be achieved with people’s thinking and actions stuck in the past.
“We will continue to create a peaceful environment conducive to tourism and ease of doing business,” Cde Mohadi said.
“Through such conventions Tourist business persons should seek initiatives that boost tourist arrivals and offer products that increase the length of stay in various tourist attraction centres in this country,” he added.
The Acting President said Government is committed to support the tourism sector in every way it can and work in collaboration with all stakeholders to unlock its full potential.
He added that the Tourism Industry should contribute significantly towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which Zimbabwe subscribes to.
“We should see the promotion of an inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all,” Cde Mohadi said.
He added that tourism is regarded as an engine for economic development and it is one of the four economic pillars of Zimbabwe, among agriculture, mining and the manufacturing sectors.
This year’s Tourism theme is ‘Tourism Open for Business and the Digital Transformation’ and the Acting President said there is a plausible meeting of minds in the convention’s programming as well as points to deliberate desire to be relevant and innovative in this changing world.
