Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) accused of former president Robert Mugabe of being a traitor and called for the removal of his name from the former Harare International Airport saying he no longer values the principles of the revolution.

The former freedom fighters denounced Mugabe and former first lady Grace Mugabe saying they are working together with opposition MDC- Alliance principles Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti to destabilise the country and cause chaos.

Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday ZNLWVA Secretary General Victor Matemadanda said they brought democracy and opened the political space for everyone.

“We are going to demand that our airport be renamed from Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

“We cannot have our face to the world being named after a traitor,” Matemadanda said.

He added that Mugabe is over honoured “for nothing” while people like the late Herbet Chitepo did not get such honours.

He also accused Mugabe of advising Chamisa on the constitutional court and said the MDC should do away with Chamisa and Biti.

“Chamisa was very clear from the onset that if he was not going to win, he was not going to accept the result of the election and America and every so called progressive country did not ask the meaning of what he was saying,” Matemadanda said.

Matemadanda also emphasised that Biti hinted violent intentions in the event that election results do not come out in their favour.

The war veterans said they are going to the airport today to demand the removal of Mugabe’s “dirty name” because he has failed the nation.

The airport was renamed after Mugabe on the 9th of November last year following influence of former Zanu PF youth secretary Kudzanai Chipanga who threatened not to invite ministers to the 21st February Movement celebrations.
