Former South Africa president Nelson Mandela is now unable to speak instead uses facial gestures to communicate, it has emerged.

His former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela attributed this to the tubes placed in his mouth to to drain off fluids from his lungs.

“He is nolonger talking because of all the tubes that are in his mouth to clear fluid from the lungs,” she said.

The 95-year old statesman’s former wife confirmed that Mandela is quite ill but refuted reports that he is on life support machine.

“I have heard this nonsense that he is on life support, he is not,” added Winnie.

The South African government said his condition is critical and sometimes unstable however, his doctors said they hope to recover his voice.
