Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South) – Another political activist has gone missing in Zimbabwe after Fanuel Kaseke, a student activist was reported missing by his relatives on Wednesday.
The student activist last week took part in the recent University of Zimbabwe demonstration against fee increases that resulted in the arrest of several student leaders.
According to statements from his relatives Kaseke was last seen with his friend on Wednesday at 4 wearing a black and white stripped shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
Kaseke who took part in the #feesmustfall demo on Monday at the UZ, which resulted in the banishment of some students from campus residence, is said to have not reached home later in the day.
“The mother Nancy Chinhema, who is in South Africa, called him later at around 5 and no one answered”
According to his friend Fanuel had no money and had previously asked for some.
“He came to my place on Tuesday morning looking for money to go to Patirenyatwa where he said their was a demonstration”, said his friend.
Kaseke’s mother said he had earlier warned his son not to take part in the demonstration.
“I had warned him not to go again to the demonstration after her sister had called me telling me about his involvement in the UZ demonstration” she said.
Chitungwiza police have since confirmed receiving notification of the missing person and are asking for information from members of the public.
The disappearance of Kaseke has increased fears of a state campaig after the disappearance of another activist Itai Dzamara who is heavily suspected of being a victim of a government clandestine plan to decimate opposition.
