Africans cannot manage their own affairs-Maridadi
Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Black people cannot manage things on their own as has been shown across the continent according to Mabvuku Member of Parliament James Maridadi.
The former radio personality and MDC member, who was speaking at a Transparency International (TI) function, charged that time has shown that blacks are always bound to end up the same across the continent.
“I once spent what I consider the best 45 minutes of my life with Ian Smith, the former Rhodesia Prime Minister, in South Africa some time back”.
“What he told me convinced me that we black people cannot manage things”.
“I won’t apologise for that statement until I have seen otherwise”, he charged.
Maridadi stated that he had looked at case studies of Ghana, Ethiopia and other African states that gained independence long back to reach his conclusion.
“Way back i was with a friend in Ethiopia and I saw him buying water. I asked him what the water was for and he said for drinking”
“I was surprised and said nothing like that could happen in my country and he said just wait and see”, he said.
Maridadi charged that a lot of ineptitude by the leaders would always see African countries ending up broken economically and socially.
“In the early 90’s after independence parastatals contributed almost 40 percent of the country’s GDP”
“I still remember that at ZBC, which was being led by a white man whose highest qualification was an O’ level certificate, we declared dividends and workers were given bonuses and pay rises”
“Today it’s different even though the management have PhD’s”, he said.
Maridadi said the politicians leading Zimbabwe had destroyed a once shining beacon and the results were there for all to see.
