Harare, Zimbabwe -(News of the South)PrayerSoul, a new name in the hearts, minds, and souls of many locals [Zimbabweans],one can opine. Contrary to this assertion, Prayersoul can easily be identified as the quintissence of neo-soul music in Zimbabwe.
He has graced the H.I.F.A stage, toured Germany, Italy and Austria and has two special unmatched albums to his name ,with the recently launched album which is doing quite good entitled “While I Was Away.’
During the Director’s meeting organised by H.I.F.A at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare,PrayerSoul was one of the panelist and he resided upon the topic called “Be Intentional”. He reiterated that in as much as an artist might have the talent, at times talent on its own is not enough. It is about going out there and “Be Intentional” and show case your talent. According to PrayerSoul, “It’s about showing and not talent.”
Žig Ziglar,an American motivational writer and speaker once said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last.Well, neither does bathing -that’s why we recommend it daily.”
Vis-à-vis that consensus, PrayerSoul deliberation was something tangible and something that relates to the real world of artists. He was adamant that the classroom environment is “limited” for an artist to bud when faced with reality. PrayerSoul a Great Zimbabwe University graduate himself said he was rather fortunate to meet one of Zimbabwe’s icons when it comes to the art industry,The Great Albert Nyathi at the Africa Unit Square in Harare, who offered him career guidance on how to sail in the industry. The classroom is not offering the students with real life skills, the sole reason why it is really not a surprise that many artists are lacking consistence and professionalism in the industry.
From my own deeper soul of understanding, what my eloquent brother PrayerSoul was trying to make many artists grasp during his presentation at the H.I.F.A directors meeting is that, artist should not wait to strike till the iron is hot, but make it hot by striking. “Be Intentional” that is the will to survive and make it as an artist in the cruel industry.
The new curriculum which is been implemented by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education was also commended by the directors as a way of spearheading the arts from the grassroots level and bridge the “generational difference” between the “old hags” events organizers and what the contemporary generation craves for in line with entertainment.
Some of the banners highlighted at the Directors meeting read, “Take it like a man but don’t take it up with” The Man”,”Tell your struggle with triumphant humour”, “No future without culture”, “Purchase the proper boots with which to pull yourself up by the bootstraps”
The Directors meeting organized by H.I.F.A also witnessed the presence Emily Akuno from Kenya, Charles Houdart from France and ACP Cultures + staff and beneficiaries. If the banners on display at the meeting are to be implemented by both the government, public and private parastatals, then the future certainly looks stimulatively elegance in Zimbabwe’s arts industry.
