Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) -THE Donate A Shoe charity programme which was held in Harare recently and which saw award-winning musician Leonard Zhakata performing at the concert is set to benefit some underprivileged children in various parts of the country.
Various musicians teamed up for the worthy cause when they performed at the concert which saw well-wishers including artistes and businesspeople who are members of the Zimbabwe Business and Artistes’ Hub (ZIBAH) also donating pairs of shoes and cash to the charity programme.
The music show was also the first by Tinoda Trust ever since being registered last month although in December last year they donated pairs of shoes to the less fortunate in Murehwa, Waterfalls and Highfield.
“After attending a prize-giving ceremony at a school in Murehwa sometime last year, we then realized that there was great potential among these kids, who sadly were lacking physical and financial support.
“We then posted photos on social media and people reacted massively. We later on went back with 500 pairs of shoes which we donated to them, apart from assisting a family in Waterfalls and one elderly woman in Highfield. We also paid school fees for some of the kids. This is when we realized that we can actually form a trust and the result was Tinoda Trust which we registered in March this year,” said Fagio Marowa, one of the brains behind the project.
He added: “We are happy with the support from the musicians and the corporates, it is a good starting point. We will be starting with disbursing the shoes to schools in Mashonaland Central.”
His words were echoed by gospel musician and renowned music producer, Forward Mazaruse who said it is the right of every child to have decent clothing, education and shelter.
“I understand the gravity of going to school without shoes, and this is the reason why we readily agreed to support the project when our brother Fagio approached us with the idea,” Mazaruse said.
He has since released a few songs which are themed around the Donate A Shoe project, some of which he played at the concert.
Exevia Mawoneke, who is the vice-chairperson of ZIBAH, applauded the organisers of the Donate A Shoe Project, saying it was worthy idea that deserved the support of all Zimbabweans.
“This programme should be an ongoing process and we hope that it goes an extra mile by seeing more people donating more to the less-privileged. The idea must receive national support,” Mawoneke said.
Musicians Leonard Zhakata, Better Nzombe, Linea Utete, Allen Kairos Manyonga, Candy, Forward Mazaruse and The Worshipper, among others, ae some of the artistes who supported the Donate A Shoe project.
