Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Progressive Teacher’s Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) leader Raymond Majongwe was allegedly paid over half a million dollars by Joseph Chinotimba as compensation after a defamation of character in which he was accused of being gay.
The combative trade unionist made the statements on Monday on the sidelines of the bonus indaba between civil servants associations with government.
Speaking to some journalists gathered there Majongwe said Chinotimba defamed his character and paid for it.
“Go and verify with Manase and Manage legal practitioner erst, I bought my red car with Chinotimba’s money after he came out on television saying im gay”, he said.
Majongwe promised to take the Herald and its senior reporter Felix Share to court after the publication printed a defaming article in which they revealed his place of residence whilst labelling it a mansion in an insinuation allegedly aimed at tarnishing his image.
The trade unionist was part of the grouping of association heads who on Monday managed to win an agreement for the civil servants in which government will pay their 2016 bonuses in cash.
Government had proposed to pay it by giving stands in a move which was vehemently rejected by the civil servants.
