West London club take on 18-year-old in four-and-a-half-year deal
EUROPA LEAGUE holders Chelsea have wrapped up the signing of African teenage sensation Bertrand Traore.
The 18-year-old player was trialled over the summer by the Blues in their tour of Asia, and he has now penned a four-and-a-half-year contract for Jose Mourinho’s side.
It is unlikely the Burkina Faso international, who won his first cap aged 15, will feature in Chelsea’s first team this season – he could be loaned out to gain more top-level experience until deemed ready for first-team action.
Chelsea are understood to have beaten a raft of other big European clubs hoping to sign the promising talent.
Traore was part of Burkina Faso’s squad that competed at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
He played three games in Asia for Chelsea before being handed his professional contract.
The teenager joins African star players – Samuel Eto’o and Michael Essien – at Chelsea, which has a strong history of signing the best talent from the continent, including club legend Didier Drogba, and former World Player of the Year George Weah.-The Voice
