Masvingo City Council of Zimbabwe has applauded Small and Medium Enterprises for its remarkable contribution towards the local authority’s revenue.
Speaking at the National Economic Consultative Forum last week, Council Health Director Zvapano Munganasa said SMEs contribute much to total revenue.
“We get a little amount from refuse collection, a little amount from water charges, fairly an amount from council bars and shop rentals but rates from SMEs contribute much,” Munganasa said.
Munganasa said the council complied with the President’s directive of removing debts and assured that the council will support SME initiatives through providing land for construction of businesses.
He added that A2 farmers were doing cattle ranching and were doing well but watering of the animals was a big problem.
“We are having problems in watering the animals and we appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture to provide irrigation schemes for cattle ranchers to realize their dreams. Masvingo climate is favourable for cattle ranching and this can be one of the major contributors to council revenue,” he said.
