Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South) – The Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) is working on a framework to create standard specifications for the African traditional medicine as it seeks to include the old branch of healthcare into the new.

Speaking at the ongoing Zim-Afro Medical and Health Fair SAZ Marketing Manager Mr Godfrey Dube said the initiative was at an advanced stage.
“We are still working on the documents to create the standards for African traditional medicine and this is not really something new. The Chinese have their own standards for their own traditional medicine”, he said.

“The creation of standards for a specific practice enables for a comparative assessment of health facilities and services across the country, and it’s the industry as a whole that benefits”.

Meanwhile Chitungwiza General Hospital has found an Indian partner with whom they have joined to help upgrade the ISO certified facility further.

The Hospital’s CEO Dr Obadiah Moyo says this joint venture will see an improvement in clinical services though the hospital will remain under the same management with the partner only sitting in.
Though he could not name them for confidentiality reasons Dr Moyo said things were at an advanced stage.

“We are moving away from the Public Private Partnership into joint ventures with this Indian partner which will see the building of a helipad, improvement in ancillary and clinical services plus the training of our personnel in transplanting”.

“We have been seeing a high number of people going to India for such things as kidney transplants but when those people return some face complications and require nearby assistance, and that’s where we will come in especially as we got the machinery”, he said.

The hospital acquired kidney transplanting equipment recently and is set to provide the services soon.
In line with its joint venture co-operations the hospital has partnered with prominent eye specialist Dr Guramatunhu to set up an eye specialty facility at the hospital.
