A FRAUD probe involving prescriptions has been launched at a doctors’ surgery in Notts.
Police have confirmed that they are investigating allegations of fraud connected with Netherfield Medical Centre.
Officers arrested a 45-year-old woman in Radcliffe-on-Trent on suspicion of fraud by false representation on Thursday morning.
The Post understands they were investigating allegations that prescriptions were being fraudulently claimed.
The surgery, in Forester Street, Netherfield, would not comment.
The centre is part of Trentside Medical Group, which serves 12,000 patients and also has premises at Colwick.
Dr Doug Black, medical director for NHS England (Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire), the body responsible for commissioning primary care services, said he could not comment on the investigation but added: “Where service standards are not being met, NHS England will take action to examine why.
“If, during the course of this, concerns are identified which require criminal investigation, the police will always be notified.”
Ron Staff, 59, a former senior manager at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said he understood the investigation had been going on for months.
He said: “As a previous employee of the NHS and now a member of the public, I am disappointed and shocked that such things may have occurred.
“The public should be kept informed about such matters and systems should be in place so the public are not kept in the dark about investigations like this.
“The NHS has a duty to involve the public under the strategy for public and patient involvement.”
Alan Taylor, 67, of Netherfield, a patient at the centre, said: “I’ve been registered there for some time.
“You never expect to hear that the police are investigating.”
A 44-year-old Netherfield woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I am really shocked to hear the police have launched this investigation.
“I have been a patient here a few years. I have always been really happy here.” – Nottingham Post
