Press Statement from “Spio Women for Mahama”- Ashanti Region.
Ghana. – We are grateful to the President, John Dramani Mahama, on his recent tour of the Ashanti region to commission completed projects, and to cut sod to start other vital projects more especially for the commencement of the Kumasi Central Market- Kejetia.
The state-of-the art complex when completed will be of great relief to the market women in the region who have made extraordinary sacrifices through loss of revenue through fire disasters. While we have suffered perennial market fire outbreaks, the construction of the new market complex will ease the overcrowding at the market and save lives and property. The Market complex will also relief and comfort regular commuters (to and fro Ashanti) of tedium of traffic after close of work and business; provide sorely needed Central and befitting shopping Malls for the city.
The construction of other needed projects such as the second- face of Kumasi roads and drainage project, the Bomfa Junction- Asokwa- Berkwai road rehabilitation and the Kumawu- Drobonso road construction all but demonstrate the unprecedented infrastructural growth of the Ashanti region.
Other on-going projects such as the Kumawu-Agogo-Kwahu water projects will help trigger Social and Economic Development activities, as potable water will flow soon, to various communities along River Afram catchment areas. This will ease Kumawu- Wonoo old outstretched Borehole, which serves Kumawu-Drobonso populace, including Grade A School Tweneboa Kodua SHS. It is good to note that His Excellency President Mahama has also upgraded the Kumawu Polyclinic and for the first time in history, a full-time Medical Doctor is stationed at the Polyclinic rendering first class Hospital Laboratory/Biomedical services to the community.
“Spio Women for Mahama” are also thrilled with the President’s pronouncement of a new major AGRIC policy for Ghana in the Ashanti Region. Turning our rich fertile land into productive agri-business will only inure to Ghana’s drive to ensuring food security for all citizens.
With the current state of infrastructural developments on-going in the region and across the country, the entire executives of “Spio Women for Mahama” mostly made of Marketers are with high hope that the NDC will chalk the over one million votes that we the people of Ashanti region promised. To you Mr. President, Ashanti region says kudos and Ayekoo for your selfless leadership.
