Upcoming Zimbabwean writer Takudzwa Mashumba has scooped the inaugural News of the South (NOTS) reporter of the month for September.
The 23 year old gifted wordsmith shrugged off stiff competition from equally prolific writers in the NOTS news room to land the prestigious award that could be accorded to anyone in this paper and pen business we call news writing.
Born and bred in Murewa, Mashumba attended Chikupo Primary school before proceeding to Oriel boys high in the capital for his higher level education.
Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA) was his next destination and it was there that he was moulded into the person he has become.
The NOTS chief Editor Eugene Majuru described Mashumba as a dedicated and consistent reporter who bears the hallmarks of an excellent online reporter.
“Takudzwa is consistent, hardworking, committed, and highly efficient,” she said.
Mashumba, a devoted Christian from the Covenant Assembly of God Church said he was overwhelmed with emotion and believes that his hard work has finally paid dividends.
“I was overjoyed, I felt like crying. I have been working so hard and I believe these are the sweets of my sweat,” the visibly ecstatic Mashumba said.
If the Mabvuku based reporter keeps a cool head and maintains a hunger for success he is surely destined for greater heights.
Mashumba’s command of the queen’s language is exceptional and his ability to construct powerful images with the pen is a marvel to watch.
One hopes this award will motivate him to achieve greater things in the field.
News of the south is a relatively new online publication that boasts of a dedicated team of talented and upcoming journalists.
