“…I`m African and proud, it’s a land of pure delight, it’s a land of milk and honey, I’m African and proud, I’m African and proud.”
The rich and powerful line above which is pregnant with meaning is taken from a new song by Zimbabwean upcoming jazz artist Best Masinire.
The song milk and honey portrays Africa as a rich endowed continent flowing with milk and honey and therefore deserves the respect of people from across the globe.
Music is a universal tool that can be used to communicate important messages but its meaning can be only understood by those who are willing to pay close attention to it like what the famed Christ Embassy president Chris Oyakilome says;
“The Holy spirit sings but only in the hearts of those who have received and known him, the only way others will hear his singing is when those who hear his voice in their hearts sing aloud with their mouths.”
Masinire says that a lot of tremendously negative things have been said about Africa and he saw this as an opportunity to correct this wrong and wayward assertion that has been around for the past donkey years.
“ Many ghastly things have been said about this our lovely content, Africa, others say it is a dark continent, while others believe that nothing good will ever come out of it but this is a lie from the pit of hell.”
“Pictures shown about Africa are so disturbing, they always show an Africa with desperate people in dire need of assistance as if there are no reach people in the continent,” said Best Masinire.
The gifted 21 year old songwriter says he was born and bred in Africa and is proud to be identified with a continent he labels as graced and chosen.
The song Milk and Honey features Pauline Gundidza on Mbira, Marcia Mwanza on backing vocals, Buzzy Dee and Max Mac-milan on keyboards.
Masinire who is based in Harare is gifted with the rare ability to write powerful and uplifting lyrics, his prowess does not end here as he is also as good with the guitar as he is vocally.
The soft spoken artist says his musical journey started when he was still in primary school when he discovered his love for music.
Masinire is currently engaged to a jazz outfit called Licafa and they are currently working on a ten track album which they recorded at Monolio Studios and Shades studios.
Apart from music, Masinire is also a social commentator and journalist and currently writes for News Of The South media House.
