Tongai Tarubona and the Black Identity launched the first ever sungura riddim in Zimbabwe yesterday at city sports centre featuring twenty five musicians including eight female divas .
The title of the album called THE TURNING POINT which has got twenty six songs and was recorded by the Black Identity studios mixed and mastered by Kuda Arineshto [Maestro] in Harare . ‘We have changed from the traditional sungura which used to play for ten to fifteen minutes ,we now have turned to short playing sungura which only plays for only as short as five minutes ‘ said the Black Identity leader Tongai Tarubona .
‘Sungura music used to play for long minutes and our fans some of them preferred to shift to short songs like the Zimdance because of its lengthy but on this diversity our fans have come back to sungura ‘ elaborated Taruona .Among the musicians who featured on the album was chikomana Shaddy aka Shadreck Saineti ,Sarah Dee the talented Bulawayo female musician ,Tete Pipilo just to name a few.
The sungura music is also sing in different languages like Chewa and Nyanja like is done by one young upcoming diva who also featured at the launch .The new sungura type has good lyrics and the message in it is straight to to the point .Tarubona’s last album Shambakodzi ,his seventh album, was launched in 2015 and was a hit he is promising his fans to release another album soon before the end of this year.
