Zimbabwe Cricket Leaves for SA
By Perkins-Tino Bare.

Harare, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Cricket left for South Africa on Saturday where they will play a historic day-night test against South Africa. The squad includes the former U-19 Ryan Burl who enjoys his capping into the test team whilst Tendai Chatara makes a return after being sidelined in the West Indies Test with an injury.

The Chevrons coach Heath Streak applauded the work that has been done in the domestic league by giving the chance to Ryan Burl as a result of his exploits in the domestic league.”We are looking to have at least two changes to the side. Malcolm Waller and Sean Williams are out and in comes Ryan Burl and Blessing (Muzarabani). the selectors have considered a lot of things to come up with that decison. But it`s not like we have made drastic changes its just those two. The choice of Burl is because he has shown a lot of promise and has been geting runs in the domestic league”, said Streak in an interview.

Return of the Prodiges

This time it`s not a joke but the Chevrons are indeed promising a lot in the upcoming 4 Day Test with South Africa not knowing up to how much they are going to be able to deliver on that scale. There is the return of Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis who had signed kopak deals in the county championship but then have returned to boost the squad. On the home front there is also in-form Hamilton Masakadza and Sikander Raza who`ll be expected to deliver.

Whilst there have ben promises it also of interest that the boys have been measured on their perfomances in the domestic league which we all know is not up to par. Moreover the domestic league was cut short with ZC citing cash shortage with reports of players and staff not set to receive salaries to paev way for refurbishments set to take place before the World Cup qualifiers.

Form will be of major concern especially for the returnees Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis of whom much is expected even after almost after 3 years of absence for Brendan. The players who were based in the BAngladesh league were also not getting game time and so ZC tried to slot in a training camp for the boys were they practised facing short balls and bouncers.
Once again we look to Hamilton

This time its really up to the big guys once again to try and step up to the plate and face South Africa. Hamilton Masakadza looks to be in form and we also expect Solomon Mire to adapt well to the southern conditions. The batting list looks quite short as we have Brendan Taylor Chamu Chibhabha and Hamilton Msakadza. It would be quite interesting to see who Streak opts for between PJ Moor and Regis Chakabva. Chakabva seems to have an edge over PJ Moor in terms of experience but then he gets sloppy at times in his wicket keeping and also PJ Moor would be a safer batting option as he will certainly add some weight to that batting line-up.

On the bowling front Kyle Jarvis looks set to be leading the seam attack together with either Tendai Chatara or Chamu Chibhabha. The Chevrons seem to have a strong seam bowling attack with also Blessing Muzarabani and Chris Mpofu to that list. The spinners inclde Craig Ervine and the skipper Graeme Cremer. It would be interesting this time to see if the Chevrons will be able to penetrate through South Africa`s batting line up as they seemed to struggle to take 20 wickets in their test against West Indies.

The Chevrons left for South Africa on Saturday where they will play a 3- day, day-night pink ball practice match in Paarl fromthe 20-22 December before the historic boxing day-night test on the 26th. The ICC has set the 4-day test to 98 overs pers day with an extra 30 mimutes to be allowed, the follow-on has been however reduce from200 to 150 runs. After South Africa the Chevrons will look forward to play a tri-series with Sri-Lanka in Bangladesh from 15-27 January before facing Afghanistan in early February.

Squad : Graeme Cremer (cpt), Blessing Muzarabani, Brendan Taylor, Chamu Chibhabha, Chris Mpofu, Craig Ervine, Hamilton Masakadza, Kyle Jarvis, PJ Moor, Regis Chakabva, Ryan Burl,Sikander Raza, Solomon Mire, Tendai Chatara,Tendai Chisoro
