London. (News Of The South) – The forthcoming UK Gunship Tour featuring Zimbabwean artists Sulu Chimbetu, Freeman and Prince Musarurwa will see the infusion of Dendera, Afro Jazz and Dancehall music.
The Tour is billed for September 25 in London and Birmingham on September 26.
This will be the first time for Prince Musarurwa to perform in the UK , Sulu and Freeman have toured the UK several times.
Tour hosts 2Six3 Promotions said:
“ The Dendera sound has been at the forefront of the Zimbabwe Music Scene ever since it was introduced by Simon and Naison Chimbetu and it has been seamlessly incorporated by Sulumani Chimbetu”.
With the backing of some of the original Dendera guitarists, the sound has evolved to have a modern twinge which has now propelled Sulu to be a Zimbabwe great in his own right.
Unmistakably recognisable, Sulu’s slightly light hoarse voice is deceptive for before you know it you are singing to all his tracks over and over again. This is testament to how powerful his voice is.
Sulu`s new album titled “Gunship” is a mixture of all things good about Dendera.
One can hear the recognisable bass guitar (Dendera) on all the tracks. What captures one`s imagination is how the rhythm guitars complement each other. It`s almost like waiting for the superb lead guitar to stop its wailing so you can listen to the tug of war between the rhythm guitars. Then there are the dance routines. To be honest Sulu is the ultimate entertainer and he is so good at what he does the last thing anyone wants to do is to miss this ride….
The emergence of Zim Dancehall caught a few people off guard. In its infancy a few people believed it was going to catch on but then among a clutch of a few artists Freeman became one of the most outstanding vocalists.
Freeman`s style was flawless and the truth is he proved to be a cut above the rest.
Aka Music Doctor by his fans, Freeman`s signature Daaaaaaaaangerzone grabbed a lot of people’s imagination. All the beats behind his vocals are always well worked out but what makes Freeman amazing are his Lyrics.
He is a poet and since Zimbabwe1s independence there are a few notable artists who can sing a song that can leave one rewinding so you can just catch that bit of lyric running just underneath the vocals.
2Six3 decided to give quality diversity to the show so decided to engage the Doctor’s services and he is chomping at the beat……
Afro Jazz has always been for 2Six3 Events, that elusive epitome of kool.
Fresh genuinely talented artists are very hard to come by.
In Prince K Musarurwa 2Six3 say they identified raw talent which when sampled they realised he was a very good accomplished musician.
The challenge for his group, comprising of a live band, is always going to be music arrangement. This is where everything becomes ‘organised’ noise. Well this dude can arrange music. His sound soars and captures those notes which you might think are elusive. When you then hear him, you just secretly nod and smile and think ‘he just hit the spot’…
2six3 Events made a decision to bring this event into slightly different settings from the ones which Zim / UK Diaspora is used to.
The London venue T Chances have a musical venue with 2 bars and 2 rooms comprising of a performance hall and a standalone bar room which has a live feed from the main hall. This enables fans to enjoy free movement from one room to the other while enjoying minimal congestion at the bar and using the time to catch up with friends. The sound equipment is incredible and the concert atmosphere is phenomenal. The price point for the beverages on the night has been lowered to allow Diasporans to enjoy that much more.
According to 2Six3: “We will also have a range of food ‘Grease’ to suit the style of our audience. The venue is easily accessible from Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale tube stations as well as Bush Grove main line station. The good news is the underground would have started the 24hr running allowing people to get to their respective destinations easily”.
“Not to be outdone The Drum (Birmingham) is another fantastic Musical venue. Its location is also easily accessible with main motorways nearby. This is a very elegant musical venue and fans will appreciate coming to a music venue like the Drum. By moving a notch up we hope to bring the best from the artists and the wild from the fans. It’s on!!! Bring it on!!!”.
Do not miss the best show of the year!!! Guaranteeeeed!!!
