News of the South HARARE – Warriors assistants Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa were relieved from their duties yesterday to be replaced by Bongani Mafu and Tonderayi Ndiraya to whom the Zimbabwe under-23 national soccer team were assigned.
The replacement of Gumbo and Mutasa was announced by Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Vice President Gift Banda following a technical meeting held in Harare yesterday.
Mutasa and his colleague seem to share the same fate, just four months ago, Gumbo was sent on ‘forced special leave’ by his South African National First Division side Witbank Spurs due to poor results that saw the ambitious outfit registering a single win in five league starts while the former lost his job at Dynamos the same time.
“The Siyavhutha management have decided unanimously with our head coach Mr Rahman Gumbo to place him on special leave. The decision was taken largely due to results that were not forthcoming,” the team wrote on their facebook page.
Head Coach Sunday Chidzambwa was not affected by the technical team shake up which came when Zimbabwe is just a game away from 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualification.
Criticism from public questioned the timing of the announcements but Banda was quick to defend the decision saying the warriors who require just a point in their final encounter against Congo Brazzaville need to do the business.
Ndiraya will be the National Unde-23 side head coach, deputised by Mandla Mpofu while Wellington Mpandare maintained his position as team manager and Nicholas Munyonga brought back to his Team Doctor position.0
