Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-ZANU PF is exhibiting double standards in relation to the use of foreign currency after going out and splashing hundreds of thousands on a fleet of Ford vehicles in readiness for the 2018 election campaign.
Various people have expressed shock, dismay and anger at the insensitive move which come against a backdrop of industry struggling to access foreign currency so as to import raw materials whilst acute liquid shortage have worsened bank queues in the country.
Prominent lawyer and former Tsvangirai advisor Alex Magaisa said the move by ZANU PF reflects the sheer fallacy of its statements about sanctions.
“ZANU PF always screams sanctions this, sanctions that, but go on to contribute to @Ford profits. How stupid is that?”
“ZANU will tell you SI 164/16 boosts local industry, but ZANU PF will by-pass local assembler Willowvale to go buy American vehicles”, he said.
The fleet of vehicles imported by the ruling party have been branded with party colours in anticipation of a campaign run as the party readies itself to face a coalition of opposition parties in the 2018 election.
Commenting on the issue various people expressed their disgust at the move.
“Sanctions are a scapegoat used to sugar coat ZANUPF’s corruption tendencies, in competencies, irrationality, innate bad governance”, said Tariro tandi
Chipo Dendere said “,They could talk about sanctions, our auto industry, externalization- so much but they are no where to be seen”.
Speaking on double standards another one called Anthony said “, Double standards. The ordinary folk is forced to promote local industry while the government’s appetite for imported goods is never quenched”.
