Kampala.- The Commercial Court in Kampala has summoned the State minister for Economic Monitoring, Henry Banyenzaki for failing to clear a bank a loan of over Shs92 million.
According to records before court, in May 2011, Mr Banyenzaki took Shs200 million from Bank of Africa on agreement that he would pay back in instalments within four years.
Upon paying some amount, Mr Banyenzaki, who doubles as the Rubanda County West MP in Kabale District, declined to complete payment.
This incident prompted Bank of Africa to petition court so that it can compel him to pay the balance with accrued 20 per cent interest.
The same court has summoned Butambala Woman MP Mariam Nalubega over unpaid loan of more than Shs50 million.
Court records show that Ms Nalubega borrowed the money from Bank of Africa in March 2011 and has since failed to refund despite repeated demands.
Consequently, the deputy registrar, Mr Thaddeus Opesen, has ordered Mr Banyenzaki and Ms Nalubega to file their defences against these allegations within 15 days of service. – Monitor
