Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. (News of the South) – Stanbic Back through their corperate social responsibility, has joined in other stakeholders in complementing government efforts on providing and ensuring clean water supply in Zimbabwe.
In a bid to curb the spread of typhoid and cholera Chitungwiza Central Hospital got a shot in the arm on Tuesday after Stanbic Bank drilled a borehole and resuscitated two others that had since stopped yielding aimed at supplying safe and clean water for the patients in order to curb the spread of typhoid and cholera at the hospital.
The Bank also donated 10 000 litre tank aimed at providing water to the maternity wards Speaking at the handover ceremony in Chitungwiza, Stanbic Bank Non-Executive Director Valentine Muchayakarara said the donation was
part of their corporate social responsibility.
Recently, In Mbare there was an outbreak of typhoid and cholera that claimed lives of people due to poor supply of clean water.
“At the beginning of the year, Stanbic Bank met with CCH staff to see ways which the Bank could assist in achieving things they wanted to achieve in order for a hospital to run and after much consideration we thought that the provision of clean water is a major need for the hospital.
Receiving the donation, Chitungwiza Central Hospital CEO expressed his
gratitude and said the donation will go a long way in providing safe water for the patients.
“We want to thank Stanbic Bank Board for allocating some money for the purposes of the creation of this water source at the hospital aimed at providing clean water.
“In Chitungwiza, we have had so many problems before with cholera and typhoid due to poor supply of water and now you have chip in to help us.
“You are helping us to ensure that the institution where those patients would normally come for their treatment has got a good quality supply of water. It will be ridiculous for patients with other conditions which are not water borne diseases to come ton CCH and be infected by water borne diseases.
He said the donation will help solve the water shortage problem at the hospital.
