FORMER Pastor Haisa’s backing vocalist Precious Kahwema-Kabanda has released a powerful album titled Ndoraramiswa Nenyasha that is poised to take the Zimbabwean gospel music scene by storm.
The eleven track album – which was recorded at Artisan Records – bears testimony to Precious K’s abundant talent both in composing powerful and uplifting songs while the instrumentation is engaging to the listener’s ear.
Precious K what she is fondly called in music circles.
“Ndoraramiswa Nenyasha, I poured my heart. All these songs are inspired the word of God and the vivid scriptures as well as all the wonderful things that God has played in our lives. This a way of giving glory to the living God,” she said.
“Ndiye Jesu talks about Jesus is a life changer and therefore he deserves to exalted, which is the message carried in the in song “Ndimambo Wemadzimambo”.
The Holy Spirit and its role in people’s lives make up the gist of the track titled “Fire”in which the singer goes to sing about the power people get from the Holy Spirit to minister and conquer.
“‘Knock Knock’ is a call to salvation reminding people that Jesus wants to come into their hearts and be their Lord and saviour, while track 10 is a hymn dedicated to my mother and my daughter “explained Precious K, who apart from once being a backing vocalist for Pastor Haisa has also worked with various other artistes like Daniel Taderera, the late pastor Tamuka Chinouriri and the late pastor Pfumo Kahwema, among others.
“We would rehearse in the garage of pastor Musakwa’s house in Waterfalls then! That is when I met Mono Clive Mukundu and many other gospel musicians of today. I was involved in the preparations and organisation of the first gospel shows called Nguva Yakwana 1 and 2 working with the then evangelist Kasi, she recalls.
Married to Gabriel Kabanda, who is the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Zimbabwe Open University, Precious K is also an academic of note who has to juggle her many lives at the same time.
She is without an inspiration to other musicians that apart from their God-given talent they can excel in other areas.
“I started singing for the Lord in high school where I would be requested to sing during assemblies with a couple of friends. I then joined the praise and worship team of my local church. After school I never looked back. Academic wise I am a holder of numerous certificates and two degrees, one of which is a Master of Business Administration (MBA),” she said.
She added: “I thank God that by his grace I released my first solo album entitled ‘Tofara’ in 2013 which is an inspiring project aimed at exhorting God’s people to praising and worshipping him at all times. Songs on that album are inspired by the word of God. The ‘Tofara’ album alredy has a DVD album on sale and we give glory to God for .this.”
Precious K said she is hugely inspired by South African gospel musician Benjamin Dube.
